Is it possible to give "0" stars? If so, that's what I'd rate it. The entire place is awful (trampy girls, thuggish guys, horrible music, and the MOST OBNOXIOUS bouncers you've ever seen). Nothing but trash...a complete disgrace to all of Downtown Hartford.

This place offers a verity of entertainment on (the very least) Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Yes it may be geared to the young but I had fun. The upstairs offers 2 types of entertainment. The outside patio bar offered an acoustical form of music while the inside upper bar was a dance club offering what the young kids now like to hear. I believe there was a fairly good mix of dance music as it kept those that were there on the dance floor and smiling. The downstairs has a decent size bar room and bar. Yes there are barstools to sit on if you need them. This room leads to second where the band is set up.The music on this floor is geared towards rock. There are some tables and a light sense of art deco as they placed some small couches and chairs to sit upon giving it a comfortable feeling, along with the typical bar tables and stools. As for the employees ZERO COMPLAINTS Each person I delt with (and I am a 24yr bartender vet) I found to be friendly, attentive, courteous and each had a very outgoing personality that made you feel welcome and wanting to come back. To the employees KUDOS and thank you. I read some reviews that the place was too crowded, to young, to expensive and too dirty? All I can say is there are different people that like different types of music & events. Up or On The Rocks offers many different events to bring in many different people. So at times you may find an overwhelming crowd but it is only because they are liking the same music and or event as you are. Enjoy it ! For those of you who think it's too crowded or the bartenders are too rude, or the place is to dirty maybe it's just you are too old, too rude or too high class to have fun. Instead of complaining (and I'm sure you wouldn't if it were your bar making the money) move on. As for anyone out there who wants to enjoy themselves give it a shot. They are here on the internet so find an event or band that sounds good to you & HAVE FUN ! I DID ! See you again soon From NY

I won't go back. This place was a complete dump. The bartender charged my credit card $70 when I'd only ordered a few beers. I asked to see the tab but she said she had already thrown it away and was not going to dig in the trash. She was extremely flippant and rude. The manager refunded some of the money in cash but was very unprofessional about it. On the way out the bouncer literally threw the girl in front of us out of the bar and was yelling for every one to get the hell out. And he wouldn't let another girl through to the coat check to get her jacket. It seemed like the only decent person working there was the coat check girl. Not to mention the place was dirty. The bathroom was a mess and the men's room door was jammed open, so while waiting in line for the ladies room (yes they only have 2 messy stalls) you were subjected to looking at guy's backs who were standing at urinals. It was crowded and music was bad. Don't waste your time. Go to the pourhouse instead. And if you do decide to go, pay cash.

I just turned 21 about two months ago and this was the first bar/club that I've been too. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and when I went (last friday actually) it was a bit croweded but they barely played techno like I heard they may have. I also liked the fact that the guys there weren't pigs and didn't try to grope you.

Pros: Atmosphere, Music

Cons: Croweded

Not enough hiphop/R&B. Way too much techno. Good crowd, good sized dance floor. Avg price addmission and drinks....

Young crowd. Good drink specials. Like the set up. Great sound system. There are places to sit, a good sized dancefloor and a mix of music. A lot more dance/techno music. If that is what you like, then it's for you. Saturday nights. Downstairs live band. Upstairs dance club.
