I have been going to Salon Medusa for a few years, and even though I wasn't exactly pleased with the service I kept on coming back. I have tried a few different stylists, none of whom gave me a great haircut or listened to what I wanted. Furthermore, the staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Every single time I have gotten my hair done there, I hear several stylists openly make fun of customers. I have also been "swapped" with other stylists several times-ie my stylist didn't allow enough time for me so she had to balance her work between me and another customer. I have seen this happen to other customers with different stylists, so I know that this is common practice. If that isn't bad enough, many of the stylists go outside for smoking breaks while they wait for your hair to dry, then come back stinking of smoke and touching your hair without washing their hands. Now, if it could get any worse, take a look at the date and time of all the raving 5-star reviews of this place. These reviews were written on the same date, all around the same time. It is HIGHLY unlikely that all of a sudden this many people decided to write rave reviews of this Salon, which means that Salon Medusa made up a bunch of phony reviews (and honestly, if you read the reviews they are WAY too good to be true and seem really fake). The only thing worse than a bad salon is a bad salon that fakes good reviews to get more customers. I used to keep going here because I didn't know how to be treated by a REAL salon. Now that I know how horrible the service is at Salon Medusa, I will NOT be returning to this salon. Do not pay attention to its "Best Of" rating-it just isn't true.

I will not be returning to Salon Medusa. I stopped in one night after work to talk to them about pricing and make an appointment. Upon walking in the door, the receptionist seemed almost too nice. There was another girl standing near the reception desk as well. I think she was the sweeper in the place. They wouldn't stop complimenting me which I found extremely obnoxious and completely insincere. They asked what kind of style I wanted. I explained I liked my style the way it is; I just neded a trim and a little refresh. I ended up booking an appointment with Nicole for later that week. Fast forward to the night of the appointment. I showed up about 10 minutes early. The receptionist told me Nicole was with another client and asked if I would mind waiting? "Sure," I told her, "I'm early anyway." I sat down and began reading a magazine. After 15 minutes, I looked up to see what was going on. No one acknowledged me, so I kept reading my magazine. The phone rang and the receptionist picked it up. She giggled a little bit and then said, "Okay, see you in a little bit. Bye." I looked at her. She smiled, "Nicole will be here in like 5 minutes." I smiled sweetly back at her while cursing her out in my head. Nicole wasn't even there! Another 5 minutes passed and the receptionist, in order to avoid having to talk to me, got up and sat in the back of the salon gosipping to two other stylists and that sweeper girl. There were no other clients in the salon. I finished the magazine. Over 30 minutes had elapsed. I stood up to get my jacket. A stylist ran up to me and asked if everything was alright. I told her I was very busy and had to leave. I had been waiting for nearly 40 minutes. The receptionist walked up to me and asked if I wanted to make another appointment. I told her no. Apparently Salon Medusa is doing so well they don't need my business. I have since moved on to a more curteous and professional salon up the street - Salon Capellini.

After searching online, I found Salon Medusa was rated Best Of by the Hartford Advocate 6 years in a row. Since I decided to cut my LONG hair into a pixie cut, I wanted to make sure I went somewhere good. Unfortunately, I read some of these reviews and got nervous about having Robert as my stylist. I called them back and told them frankly what I had read and why I was concerned. The woman I spoke to was very understanding and told me that I could come in and if I was nervous or uncomfortable, I could reschedule with someone else, no problem. I went in and Robert was WONDERFUL. Everyone there was. He didn't know exactly what I was talking about style-wise, so I showed him pictures I had brought, and another stylist showed him one she found in a magazine. He was very warm and friendly and even coaxed me through the initial "snip" to cut off my long ponytail. The entire time, he talked to me about what he was doing, and he was a perfectionist! Trimming and measuring until it was perfect. I have never been so happy with a haircut! Everyone at the salon was commenting on it, and since leaving all of my friends and family are floored. I cannot recommend this salon highly enough and I INSIST that you don't believe the bad reviews from a couple of people. Robert is a phenomenal talent and a very warm guy.

Pros: Very talented, fun atmosphere, perfectionist stylists mean you get a great cut

Cons: Eyebrow waxing is pricey (but very good)

I have spent 9 years looking for a hairstylist that can cut my naturally curly hair to where I don't look like bozo the clown...my search is over! Nicole at Salon Medusa does it right every time. My experience started as a mention by a friend to check it out, I live across the river and made the trip in a desperate attempt to tame my mane. It is now a treat to drive over to the salon, I can grab a bite in West Hartford Center, then get my haircut and enjoy the fantastic chocolates that are always laying around the salon. My color experience there has been great Nicole does a great job meeting my needs and always offers great ideas. Would pass the recommendation on to other friends.

Pros: Atmosphere, Conversation, Chocolates

Cons: None

I have been going to Salon Medusa since it first opened. I feel that the salon is welcoming and inviting. Each time I walk through the doors, I am greeted with warm hospitality. When I go to a salon, I want it to be a lasting experience. A place where I can get my hair cut, colored and enjoy pleasant conversation. I don’t want to be known as just another client. At Medusa’s, many of the stylists acknowledge me by name which makes me feel important. I love that every time I walk in there is a new décor. Walking into Salon Medusa makes me feel like I am in NY without the NY prices.

Pros: Not enough space to write all the pros!

Cons: I can't think of one!

I love Salon Medusa...I have been to MANY salons over many years, none have kept me as a client, until now. Not only do I get a great haircut, but I always have a fun experience. Steven is wonderful and has taught me how to do my hair...I can style it myself at home and look like I came from the salon! My cut and color is ALWAYS perfect, never faultering. I have, and will keep, reccommending Salon Medusa to friends and family. You should not hesitate to call, the sooner you do, the quicker and luckier you will be to call yourself one of thier clients

Pros: atmosphere, staff

Cons: parking

I have been seeing Steven at salon Medusa since he opened the shop as it was the only place I would trust to cut my hair outside of NYC. Never have I been dissatisfied with this decision. My sister even waits to get her hair cut until she flies in for a visit from Chicago as she has not found anyone whom she likes in Chicago to cut and style her hair. Steven's styling ability is consistent and careful and he does exactly what is asked even if he may think there are better options for the client. I have also seen him develop looks for people whom have no idea what they want (including me and my sister in the past) and those clients have always been pleased. The atmosphere is a vibrant, youthful, party atmosphere designed to promote creativity. It's always an event where you leave feeling beautiful. I will continue to recommend.

I'm shocked at some of these reviews. I guess it might depend on the stylist you got, but I've gone to several and they've all been awesome. Working with Steven and Sandro on a great style is really a wonderful experience. Great styles, great colors, great products. What they have done with their salon is fantastic! It is so fun and friendly. I've never had a bad experience in there. And I've seen several local "celebraties" in there, as well. Turn on channel 30 in the evening if you want to see some examples of their work, including Eva's. If you can't get in with Steven or Sandro, try Lori, Lena, Nicole, Stacy or even Eva. The other person must've gotten her on a bad day or something. I won't go anywhere else!

Pros: Atmosphere and fun, friendly staff from the owners to the front desk!

Cons: what cons?
