What's all the hype about?
by ctreynard
I'm not sure what the hype is about...sure, it's cheap, but so what? I guess it depends if you're happy with "Friendly's" caliber or not. The home fries were nothing to write home about, and the omelette (jambalya) was ok, but nothing special. Coffee is extremely weak. One reviewer mentioned that portions are HUGE, can't fit on the plates...is it possible that it's due to small plates? Yep.
On the plus side, the atmosphere was cute.
If you make it to Northampton, MA, Sylvester's still reigns supreme...make sure to know that it'll be a wait, especially on weekends.
- Pros: Pros: Cheap as hell, interesting atmosphere
- Cons: Small plates (not very user-friendly!), why go out if it's not yummy?!
Locals flip over flapjacks at this no-frills tribute to home cooking.

The Scene
The antidote to hifalutin see-and-be-seen eateries, Mo's old-fashioned counter attracts artists, business types, college students and wanderers to its swivel seats. The dinerlike atmosphere gets a funky feel from the robotlike sculptures (made locally from recycled trash) hanging above the cozy booths.
The Food
Coming here and not ordering pancakes is like skipping steak at Morton's. Made with fresh buttermilk, wheat flour and wheat germ, Mo's flavorful flapjacks can be fixed up with your choice of cranberries, strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, chocolate chips and more. The ample-sized jacks droop off the edges of the plate, so even the solo serving (one pancake) can be enough for moderate appetites. Passing on the pancakes? Try spicy, cheddar-topped huevos rancheros or Mo's classic omelet packed with fresh spinach, mushrooms and cheese instead. The sizzling grill even turns out burgers and club sandwiches.
Mo that was Good
by Rajack
Good overall rating. The food was wonderful. Substantial portions (pancakes, French Toast, and Home fries) for the hungry man. Prices were reasonable. A couple of suggestions; due to the number of tables in the dining area get there early for your pick of the best table. For those people who are often cold bring a sweater. If youre not very hungry order smaller sizes. I ordered a large stack pancakes (3) and the pancakes filled the plate completely the fries and eggs had to be placed on another plate and was filled completely. You will definitely enjoy the food and prices of this delightful neighborhood restaurant.
- Pros: Parking, Food, Portions
- Cons: Ambiance
Ragin' Cajun!!! nuff said!
by tmadar
The Rajun' Cajun omlette is the best breakfast food I have ever had! They also make a Rajin' Cajun Burger, whick is HUGE! The homefries are spicy, perfectly seasoned and plentiful. And you have to get a side of the Corned Beef (or Turkey if they have it) Hash. They add onions, celery and peppers to basic hash to really dress it up. The pancakes and french toast are amazing as well. I just can't say enough good things about this place. GO NOW!!!
- Pros: Food, Value
- Cons: Coffee is so-so, limited parking, wait for tables
mmm...breakfast
by nishdog
Food here is great...best home fries around...ragin' cajun omelettes are incredible. Huevos rancheros...Papa Mo's with ample portions of eggs/choice of meat/homefries. And a large stack of pancakes will never leave you hungry...I'm making myself hungry just thinking about it...
- Pros: great food, affordable
- Cons: can get crowded
The Breakfast of Champions!
by gamingoddess
Don't let the small nondescrepit building fool you, Mo's Midtown is the epitome of breakfast entree restaurants. From fluffy mouthwatering pancakes, to skillets that sizzle and smell better than your mom's cooking, after trying the exquisite delights here you will realize why this diner has been awarded on the top of Hartford Courant's Awards. Get ready for the long lines in the morning from both the curious and the frequent customers; fortunately, the wait is worth it in the end. Compared chains such as IHOP and Denny's, Mo's Downtown blasts the competition with its consistency in great service, food, and especially getting "your money's worth". A visit to Hartford is not a real one without a stop at Mo's!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Plenty of Food, Great Workers
- Cons: Long Lines, No Parking, Crowded Area
Mo's is less

Despite the annual accolades from the Advocate,(remember that Arafat got the Nobel Peace Prize), Mo's coffee needs lots of work, the potato pancakes are a farewell gift from the Whalers hockey puck collection. After a 10 year hiatus, I arrived back only to be woefully disappointed. Bring back the old crew!
WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL???
by tootsie06105
THERE ARE MANY PLACES TO GO FOR PANCAKES, THESE ARE NO DIFFERENT. HOWEVER, THEY GIVE NO THOUGHT AT ALL TO THEIR OMELETS, OR HOMEFRIES. THEY WERE NOT DONE WELL AT ALL. IF YOU ARE A COFFEE FAN LIKE MYSELF, STAY AWAY! THEYR'E COFFEE TASTED LIKE SOMETHING THAT CAME OUT OF MY MOTHERS KITCHEN 25 YRS AGO, MY MOM MADE HORRIBLE COFFEE!!!! LOL
- Cons: too small, bad coffee, tasteless omelets
Best ever in Hartford County
by bull_ra
Mo's Midtown is one of the few places known for diversity of its customers- It is a nice place for parents- Kids, college students, professionals ...etc
The breakfast is very good at reasonable prices, you will never get tired of going there one or twice a week, or may be everyday...the omlettes are great with no exception :wild-western, cajun, ...
Don't forget also to try pancakes. Corn-beef hash is one of my favourite food ..try it..
The owners and staff are very nice and helpful....overall atmosphere is GREAT!! Be prepared to wait in weekends after 10 AM, but it is worth it!!
I haven't seen yet a place such as Mo's midtown in food, service, quality and ambience in the entire Hartford County!! I love to go there and take friends and guests...I highly recommend it to everyone
