I went to Garrett's Barbershop last Thursday because a friend recommended it. I was NOT let down! First of all, the haircut was superb! I asked for the "blowout" and when I walked out, a woman walked right up to me and said, "Excuse me, but are you one of the Gotti boys?" That's the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. I returned to the shop yesterday for a quick edge-up. When I walked in the door, Garrett was cutting hair AND making waffles! It turns out that he is not just a barber, but a breakfast food aficionado. And after my cut, he showed me how to use maple syrup as a styling product. He explained by means of a soliloquy, that it was the Incas who originally used tree sap as a styling aid. He played the role of Inca Chieftan, "Pablo Elsmitho", which translates literally to mean "Paul Smith". Chief Elsmitho stumbled upon the delicious beauty product during a sacred ritual in which a mule was coaxed to jump over the tribal matriarch. I can't even begin to tell you how brilliant Garrett's portrayal of Chief Pablo Elsmitho was. It left the entire shop spell-bound. So, as I said, this place is more than just a barbershop; it's an institute of higher learning, with a light sprinkling of theater and a little maple syrup.
