The Decline of a Legand. I have for some time felt that I needed to share this note about the changes that have occurred at Panda South in East Longmeadow. This Chinese restaurant was for many, many years one of the very best in the Springfield area. It was sold over a year ago and the new owners have taken over and have made many changes and unfortunately not for the better. I have eaten there on a number of occasions over this past year and I am sad to report that the standard of quality that this restaurant enjoyed no longer exists. Many of the wonderful dishes of the former owner have been either changed or the quality of the ingredients being used so reduced as to not be recommendable. In some cases such as in one of Panda South's signature dishes "General Tso's Chicken" exists now in name only. No longer is it the wonderful expression of one of China's most well known dishes that was a part of Panda Souths former success, except for the chicken even the ingredients are no longer the same. It is now just chicken with red peppers in a very sweet orange sauce that makes a complete mockery of this famed Chinese dish. Other dishes I have tried over this past year have befallen the same fate. I am sorry to have to say that this once reliable source of great Chinese food can no longer be recommended and diners should consider other options.
