Crappy customer service, again.. I was in there line for a cup of coffee today, there was one other girl behind me in line. One of Tisane workers (I don't know his name, but he's the little black guy that works there sometimes) saw a friend of his behind me in line and went to hug her. Then he says something like "she's in the wrong line" and they both cut right in front of me to the side. The cashier finishes with the customer that was front of me, so I walk up to the counter to order coffee. She stares at me, then looks and the girl and guy who cut, and asks "were you in front of her". Of course assuming that I cut the line. I was absolutely livid. The place has never had great customer service to begin with, but this crossed the line for me, you'll never see me or my family there again.

Sunday Surprise. Our first visit to Tisane: going in search of a Sunday Brunch. It's 1:40 pm and brunch ends at 3- still a full house, and we weren't sure we'd get seated. But we got fine seats by the patio door, and unfortunately, a LONG wait for food. (Alas, they were out of salsa and avocado for the 2 orders of El Camino we'd requested.)

But hey, the tea was great and the waitress was utterly charming and made the wait bearable - not to mention the homebaked cookies one of us had brought along) The food when it came was yummy and original- we all want to go back. Really charming place and contrary to some opinions, great staff. {Thank you Katy.}

Unfortunately, The Place is Going Downhill.... : (. There are very few things as unfortunate as having a place you use to enjoy go downhill. I recommend that if you want to enjoy a place with good service and decent attitude, DON'T GO here. My friends and I use to love going there to hang out and have a coffee, tea or a drink or two. It was a very enjoyable atmosphere. But for the past few months a few things have been occurring that were very unfortunate. I thought it was just my girlfriend and I, but I've been hearing it from quite a few people who've been regulars there for a while.

Specifically (1) The service has been slower and slower. When I mentioned anything about it, they appeared to just ignore it or not care. There is not as much regard to the customer service as they use to have. (2) We use to go for Sunday brunch but when we recently asked for a substitution, the Assistant General Manager got all snooty with my friends and I. This was never the case in the past. We'd just pay the little bit of upcharge and get on with it (without an attitude). I'm not sure what's been changing but something has. It's just not the same type of place it use to be. (3) The music use to be at a volume level where it could be enjoyed but over the last few weeks it's gotten loud and when my girlfriend and I said something or simply asked why it was so loud, we were told the general manager or asst gen. manager chose to put it that loud. No apparent regard for customers.

There are very few things as unfortunate as having a place you use to enjoy go downhill. I recommend that if you want to enjoy a place with good service and decent attitude, DON'T GO here. :( Too bad. we use to love them but now have been disappointed a few too many times now :(

Great for meeting up with friends. I love getting together with my friends at Tisane's, I don't feel like they are rushing me out the door after my meal. The waitstaff let you linger and chill out, which is a great thing since I usually feel rushed in other places.

Parking is sketchy, but the atmosphere is so laid-back that it's worth the hunt for a spot. It can get horribly busy though, so if possible EARLY is better than later!

Great variety of teas and coffees; excellent food, be wary of evenings.. Tisane has evolved over the years: boho/hipster joint, upscale teahouse/eatery, gay mecca, martini bar. It retains features of all of these but can't be readily pigeonholed as any of them. The entrees are quite varied, uniformly delicious and moderately pricey. Drinks are reasonably priced. Service can be spotty, though regulars do get noticeably better service and iffy service seems to be confined to busy evenings. Most common server sin seems to be "slow to approach". Minor peeve: music tends to be overly loud.

Things to bear in mind about Tisane:

- The place tends to fill up fast in the evenings, especially Tu, Th, Fr, and Sa.

- The immediate parking lot is quite small and also tends to fill up. After 8.00 PM, parking for Tisane is allowed on the Wash Tub side of the parking lot; prior to this, you risk being towed. The parking lot of the set of stores across Farmington Avenue has designated parking spaces for Farmington Ave. businesses, including Tisane.

- While Tisane is anything but a "gay bar" in the old sense of the term, the surrounding area has some of the features of a gay village and Tisane does tend to draw many gay, lesbian and transgender customers. Specifically, Tuesday night is traditionally "Boys' Night" and the first Sunday of every month is traditionally a lesbian get-together, though neither occasion is a privte affair or even particularly exclusive. At other times, gay/lesbian/trans vibe is muted but seldom absent. Whether this is a pro, a con, or not an issue is for you to decide
