Extremely Poor Service April 25, 2009.
I ate there last night with my girlfriend and was very disappointed. We started out by waiting for our table to become available at the bar. we wanted some drinks. The bartender was totally not interested in serving us drinks, even though we were SITTING AT THE BAR five feet away from him. He didn't even scan our area for ten minutes. Finally I had to get his attention by raising my voice and saying "Excuse me, may we have some drinks." The bar wasn't even that loud or packed. The bartender was not apologetic at all. I understand part of his job is to talk to customers, but his MAIN job is serving customers as well, and making sure everyone has a drink..
Once we were seated outside, the waiter was rude and unhelpful. After we started our entrees, he never returned to see if we needed anything else or to see if everything was ok. Overall he had an off-hand attitude towards us.
I eat out 3 to 4 times a week and generally get good service from the areas restaurants. I had not been to Grant's in years and now I remember why. I am so unhappy with the service at Grant's that this is the first time I actually am posting a complaint at this West Hartford establishment.
Please, by all means go there if you want to be treated as though you are a nuisance to the staff and establishment in general.
You have been warned.
Creative, artfully aromatic dishes are served to the see-and-be-seen crowd at this West Hartford Center hot spot..
The Scene
Tile floors, mahogany accents and a hodgepodge of 1920s-style hanging lamps combine to create a plush, speakeasy vibe. The ultrahip clientele fills the room with charged chatter at this festive, locally acclaimed eatery.
The Food
For starters, dive into the cornmeal fried oysters--barely deep-fried morsels accompanied by lemon-caper or artichoke aioli. Entrees are satisfying, like the zingy, piccata-style jumbo shrimp in white wine sauce, accented with capers and lemon and accompanied by tender ricotta gnocchi. Topped with rich Gorgonzola, the savory, grilled filet mignon is served with creamy spinach, velvety mashed potatoes and roasted shallots. Any of the melt-in-your-mouth desserts make for a delicious finish. Try the ten-layer chocolate cake, adorned with ribbons of fudge frosting, or the pumpkin-chocolate opera cake--a compelling marriage of pumpkin sponge cake, chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache.
West Palm Beach in West Hartford. Great bar Atmosphere, can be a bit crowded at times, but thats ok if you like fun people and like to mingle, great Bartenders make it happen even better, you can even enjoy great food at the bar, Allot of booths make it very cosy as well, the food is ecclectic, even a few old fashioned items, like meatloaf and shortribs, not too pricy and everything I have tried was done to perfection, even the fries with truffle oil, thats not the actual name. Try it you will like it.
