Absolute worst experience of my life. If you want to be belittled and given horrible service from a salon owned by a rude, hideously ugly ( inside and out) indiviidual, then go to Salon Medusa.

It is possibly the most unprofessional environment I have been in a salon. For some reason these people feel that they are entitled to be rude and surly to their clientele, because they have some little scrap of paper that says they are awesome from the Hartford Advocate.....guess what? Nobody cares.

I could see if this was a busy salon so they could feel like they could afford to lose business, when I called for an appointment they had openings for the next day, and when I went there was one other customer there.

After getting a babysitter and making time to get there, the owner refused to cut my hair because I talked to him about my hair color for 15 minutes and he said I talked too much, and told me to leave!!!!!!! (which was really because I asked for a trendy highlight that I had seen in new york, and he's so busy doing west Hartford mom hair, that he doesn't know how to do cool, young hair.)

Absolutely horrible, I cannot stress it enough......

These people are rude pompous idiots that think they are very important because they beg their clients to vote for them in the Hartford Advocate and then they win and get a sign for the door of their offensively ugly and tacky salon.......

great experience. I had walked by this salon many times and finally decided to give it a try. I had such a great experience - the receptionist helped to match me with a stylist that would be a good fit. I got a haircut, and ended up going back for a color. I really felt my stylist listened to me and gave me advice on what would work best. I've been to other "top" salons in the area and always felt the stylists just did what they wanted, not what I needed. I would definitly recommend this salon.

I LOVE THIS SALON!!!. I have gone to Donald quite a few times now and have had excellent service. The first time we met he made me feel as though I have known him for years! He is very personable and knowledgable. I read some of these reviews and have never had a bad experience. The receptionist is always very nice too. I travel an hour to see Donald and he hasnt let me down yet. He is the first to really get my hair thats why I keep going to him. I am always getting compliments on my cut and color and I owe it to Salon Medusa! I would recommend this salon to anyone.

really? top salon?. so i heard about this place and was told it was up to date and current with 2011 hair trends.

first of all when i called, whoever answered the phone was rude -- it seemed as if he was to fabulous to be polite -- and educated!!!!

and when i asked if anyone was familiar with a huge trend right now, the OMBRE color, it was big no followed by a "we dont do that here" answer --(worn on drew barrymore, rachel bilson, alexa chung etcc)

last time i checked Vouge, Elle, Harpers and countless others - this was the look for spring

the rude person who answered the phone quickly dismissed me and had no idea what i was talking about...(bad sign) -- i would not have entered that place anyways after they didn't know -- for this little, small time, place to say they are current and clearly they are NOT -- is a travesty!

ive been to many high end salons in LA and NY -- at least they are on trend

i guess doing blonde foils for the ladies that lunch in west hartford is all that they can do...

stay away!!!!

What a "Nightmare". I was a regulare customer at Medusa's. Lorie was my stylist. One day I went in for the works. A color, highlight, and trim. I had discussed with Lorie not to Layer my hair anymore because i wanted to grow out the layers into one straight length. So after doing a nice job on my left side, she took her sciccors and started layering the front right side of my hair. It looked like a lawn mower had run through it, To make things worse, she didn't blend the layers. I had a very important social event to go to that weekend and I was so embarressed by the sight of my hair. It was a "Nightmare". Needless to say, I never returned back to that Salon. The staff was not friendly or courtious at all. They made me feel like I was an inconvienous to them. There noses were always up in the air. It took months for my hair to start to look normal again after Lorie took a "Hacksaw" to it. I suggest you all " Stay away" from that place!!

Great Salon - very happy. I have had my hair done at Salon Medusa for several years. I am always happy with the results - pretty, natural looking highlights, a good cut, and my stylist never lets me leave without a good blow-out. I also enjoy the atmosphere - it's very funky and fun, but still really relaxing. I would recommend this salon to anyone!

RUSHED. If you want to be squeezed in between a bunch of other customers then this is the place for you. I was disappointed in a service, voiced my disappointed and was called Ms Fussy......Not the service I expected.

Best salon in Hartford. Don't believe any bad reviews! It is THE BEST salon in Connecticut! It's simply superb. My hair has never looked better. Not to mention I really enjoyed the atmosphere in "Medusa". Everyone was extremely professional and nice.

No longer my salon. I have been going to Salon Medusa for a few years, and even though I wasn't exactly pleased with the service I kept on coming back. I have tried a few different stylists, none of whom gave me a great haircut or listened to what I wanted. Furthermore, the staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Every single time I have gotten my hair done there, I hear several stylists openly make fun of customers. I have also been "swapped" with other stylists several times-ie my stylist didn't allow enough time for me so she had to balance her work between me and another customer. I have seen this happen to other customers with different stylists, so I know that this is common practice. If that isn't bad enough, many of the stylists go outside for smoking breaks while they wait for your hair to dry, then come back stinking of smoke and touching your hair without washing their hands.

Now, if it could get any worse, take a look at the date and time of all the raving 5-star reviews of this place. These reviews were written on the same date, all around the same time. It is HIGHLY unlikely that all of a sudden this many people decided to write rave reviews of this Salon, which means that Salon Medusa made up a bunch of phony reviews (and honestly, if you read the reviews they are WAY too good to be true and seem really fake). The only thing worse than a bad salon is a bad salon that fakes good reviews to get more customers. I used to keep going here because I didn't know how to be treated by a REAL salon. Now that I know how horrible the service is at Salon Medusa, I will NOT be returning to this salon. Do not pay attention to its "Best Of" rating-it just isn't true.

Unprofessional. Avoid.. I will not be returning to Salon Medusa. I stopped in one night after work to talk to them about pricing and make an appointment. Upon walking in the door, the receptionist seemed almost too nice. There was another girl standing near the reception desk as well. I think she was the sweeper in the place. They wouldn't stop complimenting me which I found extremely obnoxious and completely insincere. They asked what kind of style I wanted. I explained I liked my style the way it is; I just neded a trim and a little refresh. I ended up booking an appointment with Nicole for later that week. Fast forward to the night of the appointment. I showed up about 10 minutes early. The receptionist told me Nicole was with another client and asked if I would mind waiting? "Sure," I told her, "I'm early anyway." I sat down and began reading a magazine. After 15 minutes, I looked up to see what was going on. No one acknowledged me, so I kept reading my magazine. The phone rang and the receptionist picked it up. She giggled a little bit and then said, "Okay, see you in a little bit. Bye." I looked at her. She smiled, "Nicole will be here in like 5 minutes." I smiled sweetly back at her while cursing her out in my head. Nicole wasn't even there! Another 5 minutes passed and the receptionist, in order to avoid having to talk to me, got up and sat in the back of the salon gosipping to two other stylists and that sweeper girl. There were no other clients in the salon. I finished the magazine. Over 30 minutes had elapsed. I stood up to get my jacket. A stylist ran up to me and asked if everything was alright. I told her I was very busy and had to leave. I had been waiting for nearly 40 minutes. The receptionist walked up to me and asked if I wanted to make another appointment. I told her no. Apparently Salon Medusa is doing so well they don't need my business. I have since moved on to a more curteous and professional salon up the street - Salon Capellini.
