Manager Couldn't Care Less
by lilaemily
My boyfriend and I pulled off of the highway on the way to Philly from Maine. We were so hungry, and could not wait to eat. We saw a Chili's, and then saw the Cromwell Diner. Even though the diner looked dark and creepy, we discussed it, and decided to support the "mom and pop" business. Mistake. My boyfriend has a life-threatening allergy, but we eat out all the time with no problem. We asked the waiter if they used peanut oil in the curly fries. He said he did not know. I was like, well, can you check? He disappeared, and came back a few minutes later. "We don't know," he announced. Ok..... I asked if I could please speak to the manager. The waiter did not bother to go get the manager. Instead, he simply pointed to a man sitting watching TV by the register. I got up from my seat to go speak to the older gentleman. I asked him about the ingredients in the fries. Without any facial expression, or seeming to care, he shrugged that he didn't know. I asked if he could please check. He didn't even pretend to start to get up. "You mean you don't know what is in your food?" I asked him. Not only did he not bother to check, he did not give a flying fig whether we were upset. "Tell your boyfriend to order something else," he said and turned back to the TV.
What a reward for trying to support a local business.
