Do not hire. Do not hire Richard Cohen. I hired him to represent me after I was charged with a DUI. He was quick to answer my call and met with me quickly. However, as soon as a paid him, he stopped caring about my case. It was difficult to get him on the phone and he rarely returned messages. I constantly had to remind him of the status of my case. As far as I know this is supposed to work the other way around. In court he was unprepared and actually had to fill out forms in front of the judge that should have been submitted ahead of time. After we saw the judge he was out the door leaving me to talk to the clerk and the bail commissioner. I was the only defendant there without representation. I was accepted to the Alcohol Education Program and opted to take the classes in Philadelphia where I go to school. Cohen assured me that he would orchestrate this. He did not take the proper steps in court to allow me to do this. I ended up paying the clerk a non-refundable $500 that I should not have paid because I intended to take the class out of state. I did not know how it all worked which is why I paid Cohen to represent me. He apparently did not know either. After not hearing anything from Cohen for a week I started making phone calls myself and was able to get everything worked out without Cohen. After another week of unreturned phone calls, I got Cohen on the phone and asked to be reimbursed for the $500 his negligence cost me. He was eager to get me to go away and didn’t argue. In hindsight I should have asked for the $1200 I paid for his services as well. I hope this is helpful and prevents others from making the mistake of hiring Attorney Cohen as I did.…
