Excellent birthday experience
by FamilyMan8
My wife and I recently held our Son's 9th birthday party at Fun Squared. First of all, we thought the renovation they did was excellent. We really enjoyed one of their new birthday party rooms. We thought then entire booking process was simple and painless. We thought the staff were very professional and had no issues with anyone who we booked the party with. We really appreciated the fact that we had our own birthday coordinator and didn't have to share her with any other parties. The pizza was excellent, our coordinator told us they get fresh dough from Stew Leonards!!!
With the new laser tag, video game area, snack bar, and lounge, it has something for everyone. We will definitely be back.
- Pros: Birthday party room / one-on-one party coordinator
Awful Experience/Customer Service Unexplainable
by jdbhlb
I never post things like this, but was compelled because I have no other recourse....
I don't even now where to start with the details of the owners unexplainable reluctance to work with us on a rescheduling (not cancellation) of a birthday party.
Due to a severe outbreak of the flu in the Rocky Hill school system all but one my child's partygoers were unable to attend his birthday. We contacted the owner a day an half before the scheduled birthday. She the "top dog" (she called herself this) made it clear that she would pocket the deposit ($50.00) and we would have to reschedule by putting down an additional $50.00. The money was not the issue here. It was her complete lack of willingness to work with us.
From a business perspective I understand the need to take a deposit. You have to hedge against the possibility that a customer simply just does not show up or cancels at the very last minute with no intention of using the facility. This was not the case.
An issue beyond our control left us without anyone attending the party. We simply asked to reschedule and have the deposit applied to the future date. She was not sympathetic in least. At one point she even hung up on me.
Once we got her back on the phone, I tried to explain my lack of understanding in the business logic. Her decision not to apply the $50.00 was extrmely shortsighted and showed a lack of business acumen not to mention horrible customer service. I guess I should not have expected this level of sophisitcated business sense from an owner of a bowling alley (tongue in cheek).
Think about it - the owner was willing to let me go as a customer over $50.00. I would be spending anywhere from $200 to $300 the day of the party and thus she was going to incur a net loss of at least $150.00 by choosing not to work with me on applying the $50.00 to a future date. And, this assuming the current party is the only party I was going to host for my kids, at this facility over the next ten years. The laser and bowling business must be doing pretty well to treat customers this way.
She has a every right to hold onto the deposit, I do not dispute that, but she has lost a cusotmer who was attempting to reason with her. It was extremely frustrating and has left me with no other choice but to warn others to be cautious if they choose to engage this owner.
It is a shame that what seems to be the owners personal ISSUES are getting in the way of a place for kids.
