DIRTY PLACE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!. me and my husband went here on 2 times so far the 1st time we went we dined in,it was my husbands 1st time going to tinkers so he did not kno what to expect,we both ordered the fish and chips, when we ordered our food we sat down then within 10 minutes our food was bought to the table, my husband was very surprised how fast the service was etc so we decided to go back a month and a half later but this time we decided to go on a Friday night and order for take out. wen we got home my husband opened his food and flipped over his fish and saw 3 pieces of hair 1 on his fish and the other 2 on the side of the container i was really upset because now my husband not only thinks the place in disgusting but would NEVER go back there again.
No need to go to the shore. My grandma started taking me here about five years ago and I've been hooked ever since. The chowder is honestly the best clam chowder I have ever had and I go to school in RI and come from a cooking family so I've tried many. I always go there for my fried fish craving. They do it just right..Its never dripping in grease and theres always seafood in it Its never just batter. Best place around I really recommend it. The atmosphere is just as if you stopped by the shore and pulled into a seafood shack its comfortable, cozy, and laidback.
Dependably excellent quality eat-in or take-home..
My late husband was a Chef so I can appreciate the difficulty that goes into keeping a place clean and maintaining a quality product.
When first going to Tinkers Seafood i was impressed with the quality and cleanliness of the raw food case for 'cooking at home.' Very good quality. The dining room is simple. The "dining wear" is simple as well. Lots of plastic and paper liners. You can order beer or wine with your meal if you eat in. It is a very utilitarian atmosphere designed to allow the food to be the diamond in the rough..and there are 4 outside tables with umbrellas. Most entree's are served with ranch fries and small coleslaw or baked potatoe -- all very good. Clarified butter is done right (many 4star restaurants can't get this right).
I have eaten there many times (>10) and all the food I have eaten has been very good. Quickly prepared, served hot. Crispy is crispy, juicy is juicy, fresh is fresh. I appreciate the simple nature of the restaurant. It is not elegant, very casual, excellent quality food. Very large (clean) salt water fish tank (250gal?) with eels, angels and other cool fish to look at.
Very CLEAN (sometimes diners take their food trays to the disposal and leave crumbs to be cleaned by the service staff...that's the only time i've ever seen anything dirty. On a busy night a few tables can sit 10 minutes). And clean, new 'no-touch' bathroom amenities.
I was impressed for the simple reasons i go there...excellently prepared quality seafood...or order fresh raw seafood from the case display to take home and make myself...The food is absolutely comparable with 4 star. If you're going for 4star atmosphere then skip it; but I prefer quality food over atmosphere anytime. And at Tinkers...relaxed in shorts, jeans or dress. It all fits there.
Great Salmon and other seafood and now DRINKS!!. I stopped in for lunch at the new location on Main St in Hartford and ordered a Ceaser Salad with salmon. The salmon was fabulous! Cooked to perfection, tasted wonderful with my ceaser salad. I order salmon frequently when I eat out and I am not always happy with the way it is prepared. This was great . I have been a fan of Tinkers for years and have had plenty of the fried seafood that was also always delicous. And now I can order a drink at the bar with my meal, even better!!
get the lobster to go. we go there a lot for fresh seafood, pretty good quality. no other places nearby either. i suggest getting fresh & cooking it at home though. we looked at the menu on the markerboard over the fresh cases, but when we decided to eat there one time in the "dining" room (which i would compare to mcdonalds with a fish tank) they charged an extra $10 for the lobster platter. it was like $13 to go, but around $21-25 to eat the exact same thing there. if your looking for great seafood and a nice place to sit down, go to Chowderpot in Hartford...... delicious
Great Local Seafood. This is our cozy seafood spot...Great Food Great Prices...ask for Michelle she's a great server...They also have a very large Salt water Fish Tank that's great for conversation.
greatest seafood restaurant ever!!!!!!!!!!!!. The most affordable place for high quality seafood. Don't waste the gas going to the shore for seafood, Tinkers has got whatever you need.
