The Scene – Nuns, co-workers, families, lovers and power brokers commune in the small, comfortable dining room, soaking up warmth from the wood-fired ovens and enjoying complimentary focaccia with sweet potato and garlic puree. Punctuated with eye-catching geometric murals, Bricco has your comfort-food fix, but with a contemporary edge. – – The Food – The Mediterranean-inspired menu changes constantly, but you'll always get an artfully presented meal. Start with a gorgeous Boston Bibb salad, heavy with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and Gorgonzola vinaigrette.…

Prepare To Be Insulted

by CTEater at Citysearch

My wife and I went to the restaurant based on a recommendation from a co-worker. We called ahead and attempted to make a reservation for my 40th birthday. The hostess informed us that they did not accept reservations for any less than 10 people. However, she assured us that if we got there at around 6pm, that there would be no problem seating us quickly.

We arrived at 6pm and the place was packed. Upon checking in with the hostess, she informed us that there was a 1 hr 15 min wait for a table. No problem, we squeezed throught the crowd and went to the bar and ordered a few drinks. About 45 minutes later we went to check how things were progressing and the hostess rudely informed us that she was, quote "under no obligation to seat us before 7:45pm". Her attitude was completely condescending and utterly uncalled for.

Needless to say we left and went to Max-A-Mia in Avon where we were seated immediately with a smile and with great courtesy.

If you enjoy abuse and want to be treated with disrespect by a pompous service staff, by all means go to restaurant Bricco. If you want to enjoy an evening out with great food and great service, and bypass the negative atmosphere go to Max-A-Mia, you won't regret it.

A Noteworthy Disappointment (F-)

by njs2399 at Citysearch

I ate here for lunch primarily because it is close to my office and because Yahoo was promoting Bricco as home to one of the best sandwiches in the country. Despite this high praise, I'm sad to say the Lobster and Havarti cheese is overrated, bland and overpriced. This glorified Wonderbread grilled cheese sandwich (with tiny hunks of lobster) will set you back $15 plus tax. Add a drink and you're well past $20 on lunch before tipping.

Make no mistake, I'll gladly spend a twenty spot on lunch, but I expect my investment to be returned with an excellent meal. The Bricco experience couldn't have missed my expectation farther. If I wanted to dump $20 on grilled cheese I could go home, toast one up, and tear up a bank note. At least then I'd be able to enjoy the comfort of my own home. The service and ambiance left a lot to be desired as well.

Do yourself a favor, if you find yourself in the West Hartford area, take a pass on this place. As for me, I left zero tip, and zero chance for repeat business.

Billy Grant, I award you an F- for the day.

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

by ItalianLuv at Citysearch

The pistachio crusted goat cheese salad haunts my dreams. I admit, I was skeptical at first- the salad itself looked like horse food.

However, I tasted it and couldn't get enough. I will recreate it for my family dinner on Sunday.

The proscuitto pizza was delish. The croissant bread pudding could have been better but was a nice comforting finish.
