The Scene
Nuns, co-workers, families, lovers and power brokers commune in the small, comfortable dining room, soaking up warmth from the wood-fired ovens and enjoying complimentary focaccia with sweet potato and garlic puree. Punctuated with eye-catching geometric murals, Bricco has your comfort-food fix, but with a contemporary edge.
The Food
The Mediterranean-inspired menu changes constantly, but you'll always get an artfully presented meal. Start with a gorgeous Boston Bibb salad, heavy with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and Gorgonzola vinaigrette. Follow with a signature stone pie, perhaps topped with tangy goat cheese, sun-dried tomato pesto, garlic and mozzarella, or pasta. The handmade ricotta gnocchi with duck confit, braised leeks, carrots and sun-dried cherries is a knockout. Main plates, including a tender mustard-barbecue cedar-planked salmon, can triumph or fall somewhat short. Note to the chef: Sauteed diver sea scallops should sizzle, not fizzle.

Over the holidays we took our family and in laws to Bricco for dinner. Bar was hopping when we went in and dining room was full. Really great ambiance. Warm, good lighting, great leather-bound chairs and booths - cool place. Food was outstanding. Really terrific braised lamb that was incredibly tender. Very solid wine list. Everyone liked their meals and they had nice kids meals options too. Only downside was that they were totally slammed and it took forever to get our meals. They felt badly about that and comped us our second bottle of wine which made it all good.

My wife and I went to the restaurant based on a recommendation from a co-worker. We called ahead and attempted to make a reservation for my 40th birthday. The hostess informed us that they did not accept reservations for any less than 10 people. However, she assured us that if we got there at around 6pm, that there would be no problem seating us quickly. We arrived at 6pm and the place was packed. Upon checking in with the hostess, she informed us that there was a 1 hr 15 min wait for a table. No problem, we squeezed throught the crowd and went to the bar and ordered a few drinks. About 45 minutes later we went to check how things were progressing and the hostess rudely informed us that she was, quote "under no obligation to seat us before 7:45pm". Her attitude was completely condescending and utterly uncalled for. Needless to say we left and went to Max-A-Mia in Avon where we were seated immediately with a smile and with great courtesy. If you enjoy abuse and want to be treated with disrespect by a pompous service staff, by all means go to restaurant Bricco. If you want to enjoy an evening out with great food and great service, and bypass the negative atmosphere go to Max-A-Mia, you won't regret it.

Another great restaurant by Billy Grant - this offers a different feel from Grant's but more great food and fantastic service. I have only attended for lunch a couple of times but was impressed. The quality of the food and the portion size was well more than what I expected given the price - I would try one of the artisan pizzas to share and experience how diverse and excellent pizza really can be!
