The Venue
For more than two decades, the iconoclastic Real Art Ways (RAW) has served as the locus of Hartford's contemporary art scene. Located between the Parkville and West End neighborhoods, the space combines visual and performing arts, live music, cinema, panel discussions, and a cafe--sometimes all of it going on simultaneously.
The Experience
The performance art is outstanding, while the panel discussions are lively enough to draw standing-room-only crowds. There's always something going on, whether it's an art exhibit previously banned elsewhere in the city, or screenings of critically acclaimed films (domestic or foreign) that you're unlikely to see anywhere else, including New York City.
