A vast collection of anything and everything Connecticut let visitors observe the region over the centuries..
The Scene
You can trace the political, social, and cultural history of Connecticut from its colonial beginning to the present via this museum, library and education center. A vast collection of photos, furniture, toys and other objects fill the galleries while over 100,000 volumes and millions of manuscripts jam the library.
The Best
Highlights of the museum's collection include interactive exhibits that allow visitors to dress in pieces of colonial costume and partake in activities. Five galleries tell the story of "Amistad--A True Story of Freedom" with recreated environments (the ship) and lighting and sound effects.
The Rest
The museum's artifact collection has some interesting pieces including a wealth of tavern signs from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Native American weapons and over 10,000 early postcards.
Throughout the year the Historical Society mounts special exhibitions, weekend events, and lectures.
