The Scene
Flower beds dot the lush green lawns of this old gristmill on the bank of the Podunk River. Innumerable wedding pictures have been taken in front of the 30-foot fountain, waterfall and covered bridge. Inside, cozy dining areas (including two glass sun rooms) offer a warm escape from the cold.

The Food
Seafood preparation here is flawless, from the golden-crusted fried calamari to the just-smoky blackened redfish. Rich specialties include chicken breast chatelaine, medallions of chicken cooked with wine, chestnuts and pearl onions. Sunday brunch is this restaurant's busiest time. A buffet of muffins, fruit and desserts accompanies orders from the breakfast menu of egg, seafood and meat dishes.

I recently attended a wedding at the Mill and I couldn't believe how RUDE the managers were! The wedding cake started falling over and I complained to a waitstaff because I couldn't find a manager. Then a manager finds me and asks where the bride and groom are and complains that they are out taking pictures! I asked her about the cake and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away! The event managers are so unprofessional! There was a wedding right before the one I attended and they left the table clothes on from the previous wedding! They just put napkins on top. I looked under the napkins- EWWW!!! We also told them that we would be providing our own chair covers and decorations and when we got there we found that not only had they let guests in before we got there, but they left the previous weddings decorations up! This was after they tried to charge the bride and extra $3.50 per chair cover, so we bought our own for cheaper! The food was alright. Definitely not 4 star quality though. Their salads were wilted. The wedding cake they made was made from store bought boxed cake mixes and frosting. Disgusting. I was thoroughly disappointed. Not only was the cake unappetizing but it was UGLY. The bartender was fabulous though. So I guess that was a saving grace. Though they don't serve frozen drinks like strawberry daiquiris.

My family and I have celebrated Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, and just recently, my sister's 27th birthday at the Mill on the River, coming for brunch each time. Of the three visits, I've had one decent experience with the waitstaff. The other two visits were less than satisfactory and a bit uncomfortable to say the least. My first bad experience was with a waiter who immediately said there would be no substitutes, that what was on the menu was all you could order...no exceptions. I found this a bit frustrating since I follow a strict bodybuilding diet, as does my boyfriend. After working up the nerve to see if we could make some changes, the waiter agreed and reluctantly took our orders, leaving us feeling burdensome. My most recent experience was with a waitress who was taking our drink orders. After ratting off a list to me, I told her no thanks, that I was on a diet. She replied, "So just the water? Is that on your diet?" She walked off and looked back with an uncomfortable stare. At that point I wanted to go home. In the future I will ask my mom to go elsewhere for our celebrations.

I've been a regular customer at the Mill on the River for about 20 years. I ordered the special which I looked forward to eating, but because I filled up on Appetizers/Salad I was too full for my expensive ($23.00) special entree. When I arrived home I noticed my take out bag was very light, to my surprise; majority of my meal was gone (i.e. Lobster and Salmon) When I called the waitress was indifferent (although she callously admitted to the error) and the manager was UN-APOLOGETIC. IT WILL BE A COLD DAY ON THE EQUATOR BEFORE I EAT THERE AGAIN!
