So far... so good!. We are just over the moon with happiness so far with selecting the Mill for our september wedding. From the first phone call Amanda was prompt to respond, flexible with menu/times/guest counts, and has given us a calm and focused feeling that we did not previously have with the other venue that made us wait almost 3 months to even send a proposal. We hope that our experience post wedding is just as good, but we have faith that this is going to be easy, fun, and amazing to plan :) Thanks Amanda!!!
Careless, Wedding Mill.
Calling it a "mill" is apt; it is a wedding mill. As the wedding coordinator told me, they do weddings here every weekend. The result: you are not special to them and they will not work hard or be flexible at all. There are 10 other people behind you in line who will put up with their baloney and rudeness.
They do not allow tastings. I was concerned because I would not have any idea what my wedding cake would taste like. Her response: Well, that's how it is here.
I wanted to use the cocktail party package that is posted on their website. Her response: anything remotely wedding-related MUST use the wedding packages on their website. Note that the cocktail party webpage does NOT specify that it may not be used for weddings.
Conclusion: They are not flexible and do not really care about making your day special.
The best food you'll ever eat!.
I've been eating here about once a year for the last 5 years or so. Then when I was getting married, there was only one place to look. The Mill was amazing. The best venue, well priced receptions. The best part was that the cake was included. They have their own pastry chef that makes them. It was sooo good. Compliments from all of our guests. The fish, the chicken, then prime rib, sooo good. I love good food, and this place continues to surprise me with how good it is. Don't go anywhere else for dinner. This will be our permanent anniversary dinner establishment. Thanks to you, Mill on the River and their wedding coordinator Laura Coviello, for making our dreams come true!
Food: 5 Stars, amazing
Ambiance: 5 Stars, amazing
Service: 5 Stars, AMAZING!!!
Delicious Food and Wonderful Atmosphere.
I happened apon The Mill on the River this Sunday after seeing a show in Hartford. This was my first time here and what a beautiful restaurant this is. From the covered bridge over looking the waterfall to the grand lobby and NY City style dining room, this place is top notch.
My boyfriend and I went to the bar to have a drink before dinner. The bar has a great view overlooking the water. We had frozen grape martini's which were a real treat!
After cocktials the hostess brought us to a seat by the window where we could see the waterfall. Our waitress Joan was exceptional! She was very warm and knowledgeable, she was attentive with out rushing us. Joan steared us toward their signature dish Redfish Nouvelle. It was delicious and she even recommened a great wine to pair with dinner.
We don't normally have dessert but Joan talked us into sharing a creme brulee and we decided to have cappucinos.
I'm so glad we drove past The Mill on the River, we will be back again very soon!
Food fine, wait staff surreal.
Sat in the bar area for dinner Sunday evening and started with a bottle of wine. After our waitress (not friendly, very condensendingly phony) gives us the bottle, she told us to hurry up because the kitchen was closing in 20 minutes.. We placed our order and got our food, and asked for some sour cream for the quesadeas...and was told the kitchen was locked shut. Im glad the company I was with was awesome to make up for the service shortcommings.
Waitress never came buy to see how our meal was.
After reading some of the other review I have a feeling the managers / owners have the same attitude as this waitress.
mill on the river wedding.
I recently had my wedding at the Mill on the River, I can not tell you what a wonderful experience it was. From the time I booked over a year ago our wedding coordinator Laura was absolutely wonderful. She made our wedding absolutely perfect. She attended to our every needs, going above what we expected from her.
We can recommend the Mill on the River to anyone who want's to have there wedding there. Five Stars to the Mll on the River!!!!!! Ask for the best, Ask for Laura!
A Happy Bride & Groom
Brides BEWARE!!!.
I recently attended a wedding at the Mill and I couldn't believe how RUDE the managers were! The wedding cake started falling over and I complained to a waitstaff because I couldn't find a manager. Then a manager finds me and asks where the bride and groom are and complains that they are out taking pictures! I asked her about the cake and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away!
The event managers are so unprofessional! There was a wedding right before the one I attended and they left the table clothes on from the previous wedding! They just put napkins on top. I looked under the napkins- EWWW!!! We also told them that we would be providing our own chair covers and decorations and when we got there we found that not only had they let guests in before we got there, but they left the previous weddings decorations up! This was after they tried to charge the bride and extra $3.50 per chair cover, so we bought our own for cheaper!
The food was alright. Definitely not 4 star quality though. Their salads were wilted. The wedding cake they made was made from store bought boxed cake mixes and frosting. Disgusting. I was thoroughly disappointed. Not only was the cake unappetizing but it was UGLY.
The bartender was fabulous though. So I guess that was a saving grace. Though they don't serve frozen drinks like strawberry daiquiris.
Waitstaff Could Use a Makeover. My family and I have celebrated Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, and just recently, my sister's 27th birthday at the Mill on the River, coming for brunch each time. Of the three visits, I've had one decent experience with the waitstaff. The other two visits were less than satisfactory and a bit uncomfortable to say the least. My first bad experience was with a waiter who immediately said there would be no substitutes, that what was on the menu was all you could order...no exceptions. I found this a bit frustrating since I follow a strict bodybuilding diet, as does my boyfriend. After working up the nerve to see if we could make some changes, the waiter agreed and reluctantly took our orders, leaving us feeling burdensome. My most recent experience was with a waitress who was taking our drink orders. After ratting off a list to me, I told her no thanks, that I was on a diet. She replied, "So just the water? Is that on your diet?" She walked off and looked back with an uncomfortable stare. At that point I wanted to go home. In the future I will ask my mom to go elsewhere for our celebrations.
ODIOUS WAITSTAFF/MANAGER...used to be GREAT!~.
I've been a regular customer at the Mill on the River for about 20 years.
I ordered the special which I looked forward to eating, but because I filled up on Appetizers/Salad I was too full for my expensive ($23.00) special entree.
When I arrived home I noticed my take out bag was very light, to my surprise; majority of my meal was gone (i.e. Lobster and Salmon)
When I called the waitress was indifferent (although she callously admitted to the error) and the manager was UN-APOLOGETIC.
IT WILL BE A COLD DAY ON THE EQUATOR BEFORE I EAT THERE AGAIN!
Very good overall.
My S.O. and I went to MOTR for New Yrs Eve this year. We made reservations for 5p and were seated on time when we arrived. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with the fireplace adding a lovely ambiance.
Our waitress was very attentive (and perhaps a little too much so at times). It was a bit odd that she only spoke to me when asking how the food was (ignoring my man). Not sure what that was about. At any rate... We ordered two cocktails to start and our soup and salad arrived very quickly thereafter. We had barely finished these itmes when our entrees arrived. I had the gorgonzola pork chop (huge chop dressed beautifully) which came with a delicious cranberry 'glaze', whipped yukon gold potatoes (a bit on the small side portion-wise) and wilted spinach sauteed with garlic. The meal was mouth-watering and cooked to perfection. My S.O. had the salmon with the whipped potatoes (again, too small of a portion) and green beans with carrots. He was happy with his meal as well. When our waitress saw we had finished our entree she quickly returned to inquire if we would like coffee or tea and/or dessert. She brought the menus back so we could browse the desserts, which she noted was made fresh daily by their pastry chef. I opted for the tiramisu and my S.O. had the cheesecake. I have to say that the tiramisu was THE BEST I've ever had, including that which I've had at Italian restaraunts and bakeries! It is beautifully plated and melts in your mouth. Absolutely excellent dessert.
When all was said and done with had completed our entire meal and were out the door in one-hour. I must admit we felt a bit rushed in that respect but the overall experience was very good. Food was excellent, atmosphere was lovely, staff were a bit over gratuitous at times but professional and polished. I kind of wish we had lingered longer but we intend to return and will do that next time. Suffice to say we were literally stuffed and quite happy with our dining experience at the MOTR.
