Not the best Chinese food anywhere, not even in Connecticut!

I have gotten take-out and dined in at Great Taste two or three times due to the exceptional reviews on this website and I am greatly disappointed! It wasn't terrible by any stretch but it definitely does not deserve the hype that it is receiving on this website. I can't say I have had a bad meal hear, maybe some weird, but nothing great. I am a big general tso's chicken fan and I would rate their's as average. I asked for it extra spicy/hot and it came out mild at best. The egg drop soup is extremely salty and thick. I like it to be a lot thinner and a lot less salty.
Dining in, the service is great. They seat you promptly and treat you like you are in a $40/plate restaurant (i.e. putting your napkin on your lap, bringing tea as you are seated, hot towel at the end of the meal). They are a little pushy when it comes to place an order, but I guess that is better than never seeing your server.
I'm not trying to recommend against this restaurant but I just just wanted to clear the air on the clearly biased hype about this establishment on this website.
- Pros: Great service and atmosphere.
- Cons: Over-rated food.
Best Chinese Food Anywhere

We dine at Great Taste nearly every week as we love Chinese food. The food here is as good if not better than famous NYC restaurants like Shun Lee Palace. The owner, Frank, and host, Steve, are welcoming and professional. The service is polished . Hot towels are provided after every course. For starters, the barbequed spare ribs are huge and meaty. Egg and spring rolls are also great. There are many superb entrees like Dragon meets Phoenix, which is part Gen. Tsao's chicken and part shrimp and vegetables, perfect for 2 to share. Also notable are Dr. Blau's chicken, tangerine chicken, shrimp with peas, peking duck, and many creative dishes not normally seen. Nice cold fruit platter served complimentary after dinner. Decor is very tasteful. Just a super place to dine with great food and service.
- Pros: service, great drinks, excellent cuisine and preparation
- Cons: neighborhood in New Britain
Disappointing experienc

09/10 We ordered house special chow mei fun, angel hair, and eggplant with garlic sauce, The latter was sticky sweet and included peppers. The house special chow mei fun was anything but special. The only difference I could determine between it and lo mein was a little less soy sauce. There was a scattering of indeterminable chicken parts, small shrimp and a few overcooked vegetables. Overall the meal was very disappointing for a restaurant that at one time was considered the best in the state.
11/06 This restaurant is located in a rather seedy section of New Britain, but we are drawn there by its wonderful Chinese food. Service is always excellent and the Szchwan entrees, in particular, are to die for. My favorite entree is the Sa Cha chicken. We also regularly order takeout with our favorites being the vegetarian lo mein and hot and sour soup. I would highly recommend making reservations on the weekends as this restaurant has been highly popular for at least 25 years.
- Pros: Reliably excellent Chinese food, very good service,
- Cons: Located off the beaten path in a seedy section of town
Sensational

Highly recommended
When I entered the restaurant, I was taken back by its breathtaking elegant interior, characteristic of a Victorian era living room Beautiful oil paintings and plushy leather booths immediately separated Great Taste from other restaurants.
The waiter quickly brought tea and amenities while another wait staffer poured us water. Shortly after ordering, the food arrived in dishes separate from our plates, allowing for easy sharing. The dishes were adorned with ornaments and were obviously a feast for all senses. The food was delicious. After dinner, we were handed steaming hot cloths to clean our hands and put to our faces which felt the equivalent of taking a nice hot bath. Cold pineapple chunks were served, which finished the whole experience well. The cost for this sensational experience was modest along with kind service, definitely put Great Taste on our list of regulars.
