Shady Glen is Awesome. Did I mention the cheese is crispy on their cheese burgers n you can get a plate of crispy cheese!!! Also they got great shakes n old fashioned Coca Cola.

Nostalgia - Worlds best burgers. I spent my teens and twenties in Manchester and have been eating at Shady Glen off and on for over 50 years. Used to grab my girl friend and go get burgers and then the drive-in movie (no longer there) on Friday nites. Took my kids when I got married. Even they have the memories of Shady Glen, especially in summer when we did our sunday drive. FANTASTIC cheeseburgers and out of this world shakes. It is still a great place to take a family, it's clean, good service and it's still like "the old days'. Eat at Shady Glen and it'll become a habit.

Town Landmark. I dont even know what I can add to these other reviews, other then I agree with every positive thing! Excellent food, service, and ambience. I've been going there for years and I've never had a bad experience! Just remember to bring cash because they dont accept credit cards.

Beat the wait!. Ever since I was a little girl I've loved going to Shady Glen. My love for the crispy cheese, ice cream and service influenced me to pick up an application. I'm now a waitress there and I'm really putting up a review in respose to people saying it's over crowded. The best nights to go for dinner if you don't have time to wait for a booth or you don't want to sit on the stools are Monday-Wednesday. I highly recommend the cheese burgers and any type of milkshake. Hope to see you there!

A Yummy, Yummy Treat. I heard about the fried cheese and was a little worried until I tasted it. YUMMY! Five years later I still yearn for the tasty treat.

The homemade pumpkin ice cream was also a nice autumn treat. Burgers and fries are good choices in this diner from yesteryear.

My only question is: When are they going to move to California?

Time stands still at SG (except prices). Shady Glen isn't "retro" exactly... it just hasn't changed since it was established after World war II. This is good news for diners, because it makes for a truly authentic "old-fashioned" dining experience. That, and they haven't tampered with their fantastic cheeseburgers and onion rings. And their Minestrone soup is a MUST. The only downside? It's not a lot of food for the money, and the waitstaff is really more concerned with speed than congeniality sometimes. No matter... the crispy cheese more than makes up for any evils this place could possibly produce.

Shady Glen - Cheeseburgers. I've travelled far and wide and nothing compares to the famous Shady Glen cheese burger. I keep going back for a fix. Best ever!

sometimes i wish i lived in manchester. even tho i moved from connecticut years ago, cravings for shady glen hamburgers and ice cream still haunt me. black raspberry ice cream served in dishes on paper doillies, winged cheeseburgers and elves painted on walls! i wish they had a website.

Those Cheeseburgers. We eat there once a week. You cannot beat the Service, Value and Food. If only all resturants could study there business model on how to make it happen we would all be better off.

The Best Fried Cheese. I have grown up visiting Shady Glen shops. & I must say that they DO put out the best Cheeseburger for several hundres miles. If you're going there expect to wait for a booth, but it's all worth the wait.

Tip: Get a extra order of fried cheese for yourself, so that you don't have to steal it from your burger.
