Don't expect great service. OK, I realize the Spring-Summer season is very busy, what with weddings and proms, but I never expected to be kept waiting for half an hour for my SCHEDULED bridal gown fitting. The sales rep was double booked and the store was mobbed at 7:30 on a Monday night in late April. I thought I'd be led around to check out styles; instead, I was given a book to flip through and told to fold down corners on the pages I liked. The rep brought me 5-6 dresses, all a similar style, and when I asked about a different style she said they had nothing available. Knowing the store was closing at 9:00 and feeling very rushed, I settled for a dress, not at all sure if it was the "right" one. Fortunately, I only paid $198.00. I would not recommend David's Bridal. There are only two locations in Connecticut and the store definitely needs more people on staff. Also, when you call, no one seems to know which department to send you to...for a simple alterations appointment or to pick up your dress. Beware of the constant marketing e-mail and phone calls you'll receive, too. They sell your contact information.
Wedding dress hunting ground for real-world brides on a budget. Princesses need not apply..
A chic, sleek boutique, it's not. But those willing to look carefully will likely find a big-time bargain. The staff is helpful and knows the merchandise but doesn't provide extensive one-on-one attention or advice. Stores (particularly on weekends) can be swamped with brides-to-be. David's specializes in beaded satin A-lines and simple lace sheaths that just hit the $500 mark. Most labels are tasteful but of medium-quality: Gloria Vanderbilt, Lady Eleanor, Oleg Cassini and the likes.
Great deal, good service.
I went to this location two times before I found and purchased my dress. The first time they did not pressure me too much even though I did not buy that day. I did feel a little rushed because my appointment was the last before closing, however it was not a big deal.
The second visit was during their $99 wedding gown sale. I arrived with no appointment and was not treated any different then if I had one. I did not have to wait more then a couple minutes to be helped, and I was allowed to go through the $99 gowns to see if they had anything I liked.
I found a dress that I loved and the girls were very helpful with advise on fit as well as accessories. (even though they knew I was only going to be spending $99 that day!)
For the amazing deal I got on my dress, and the good service I would definitely go there again.
I would recommend David's Bridal for gown shopping on a budget, just don't expect the intimate boutique feel - but in all the value outweighs everything else.
WARNING: Don't touch the DRESSES!!!. Although the prices are GREAT, the service has something to be desired. Brides need to have an appointment to try dresses, which is understandable, but they only allow you to look through a magazine of dresses that does not really give a full picture of what is on the racks. But be careful...you aren't ALLOWED to go back to a HUGE open area and simply touch the dresses that are all in plastic. It was quite insulting to be told to stop "handling" the dresses, when the girl could have nicely said that we weren't allowed in that area. Choosing a wedding dress should be a fun and happy experience...I didn't walk away feeling very good about my experience at David's Bridal.
