Editorial Review for Ann Howard Apricots – by Jessica Konopa
The Scene
Hartford's professional set spends hours dining leisurely on classic, elegant American fare while overlooking the rapids of the river. The after-work crowd unwinds over light fare and drinks in the more informal pub downstairs. White walls, antique glass windows, and cushy chairs complete the country-club feel.
The Food
In a new twist on an old favorite, escargot are snuggled under a mound of boursin cheese and covered in buttery baked puff pastry. Fried calamari is dusted with a blend of Asian spices and served with a mild wasabi dipping sauce. The tender filet mignon with Gorgonzola compound butter is more than ample, and crowns a mound of creamy mashed potatoes. Moist and tender confit of duck mingles with earthy wild rice studded with spiced pecans. Creamy apricot ice cream and apricot puree and warm apple cobbler are an elegant end to a delightful meal.

Great location with such potential. Unfortunately, very poor service with far too much attitude. Not 'customer friendly' at all. What is worse is that after I left messages for both the owner, Ann Howard, and a week later, for the GM, Kevin Quinn, no one has returned my calls. Unacceptable!
Pros: Great location
Cons: Poor service

The few times hubby and I went to Apricot's we were seated in a congested area. The food was not very good, and was priced quite high considering the quality of the meal which was subpar. Meat wasn't cooked well, soup was terrible, etc. The ambience was very uncomfortable. Apricot's is a middle-aged singles bar, and it's not comfortable, or conducive to sitting and relaxing.
