Tex-Mex Death...

by Madhatter

I have been a fan of Margaritas for about 35 years. Once known as "Margaritaville" with a silly logo of a donkey with a drink in hand, I am now only an occasional patron, perhaps once or twice per year. Today, Mexican restraunts are everywhere, not like when they first opened. With each visit I notice a deteration of the food quality and a rise in prices. Gorden Ramsey would have a field day with this place. Thursday evening at 6:00pm and the place was empty. The complex menu was very crowded with Tex-Mexican and Bar-B-Q'ed items. That was a clear signal that something is wrong. The chips 'n salsa at the table were not home-made or even fresh. The salsa was a bit too chunky, with quarter sized bits of tomato. No heat there, either. I ordered an appitizer of Potato nachos, which were very good, but seemed a bit out of place in a "Mexican" restaurant. My entree was a combo, a cheese enchalada with a Chili Relliano. They had no "green" sauce, so I setteled for their tasteless red. The enchalada shell was a bit hard and chewey and was swimming in the sauce. The rellano was OK, although not much "Monteray jack and Chedder cheese." The combo came with the offical "Rice and beans" and although the rice was good, the beans had a spoiled flavor. My wife ordered a full slab of baby-back ribs, but she received a half-slab of short ribs. The waitress, who was nice, said that the menu reflected the old ribs, but they went to the larger short ribs, hence the difference in size but the same weight. This fact was not stated when she ordered the ribs. No matter, they were terriable, covered in a thick, overly-sweet jar sauce. The place is for sale. I say it will be a merciafible death.
