Colorful horses and menagerie animals are preserved in this museum dedicated to the Golden Age of Carousel..
The Scene
The restored first floor of an old factory building holds one of the country's largest collections of antique carousel pieces. Just 15 minutes west of Hartford, a world of American folk art exists with enthusiastic guides at its helm.
The Best
Horses adorned with ribbons, roses and wings stand just beyond roped-off sections. Elephants, giraffes, pigs and ducks add color and character to the collection. There's no better way to experience the Golden Age of Carousel than to take a guided tour. Guides explain the history of each piece, the artist behind them, as well as the development and history of the art.
The Rest
The museum is especially child-friendly, with an entire room dedicated to little ones. Tykes can ride a miniature carousel or play a game of pin the tail on the carousel horse.
